The Russian composers are among my favorite classical composers, and I have long loved Alexander Borodin's music, especially the piece In the Steppes of Central Asia--there's something beautifully expansive about it. When I had the idea for drawing a unicorn, the steppes of central Asia seemed the perfect place. Stories like to claim unicorns live in the deep woods, but I'd be more inclined to think they would live on an open plain where they can run freely for miles and miles, unhindered, without human interaction. Unless an enterprising human managed to catch one . . . But how to tame such a wild beast?
